北海道・夕張にあるマウントレースイスキー場。札幌から車で約1時間半、新千歳空港からもアクセス良好な立地。ゴンドラと地形を活かしたバリエーション豊富なコースは全18本。2020年シーズンに経営難で1度営業を休止しましたが、その後2021年シーズンに見事復活を遂げたスキー場でもあります。今回は、そんなマウントレースイで、復活後のゲレンデを滑ってきました。
 

Mount Racey Ski Resort is located in Yubari, Hokkaido. It’s about a 90-minute drive from Sapporo, with easy access from New Chitose Airport as well. There are 18 varied courses that make use of the terrain and a central gondola. The resort closed down in the 2020 season due to financial difficulties, but made an impressive comeback in 2021. This time, we went to check out the slopes of the newly revived Mount Racey.

Teppei Hirota。 Joining me was Teppei Hirota, visiting Mount Racey for the first time in over a decade.

We started off by hopping on the gondola and checking out the terrain.

Looking down from the gondola, Panorama A Line already looked like a smooth, inviting run.

Drawn right in, we dropped into an open slope with beautifully groomed snow.

We continued into Dancing A Line, a fun course with mellow wall terrain perfect for goofy riders.

At the end of Beginners A Line, there’s a big wall section. Since it’s a gentle slope, be sure to carry enough speed into it.

Next, we headed to the ungroomed Carving Line, which begins with a narrow ridgeline.

It then opens into a steep slope. Though there was fresh snow, the base was hard, so we kept our riding cautious.

Racing A Line is a steep, groomed course with dynamic terrain changes—perfect for speed lovers.

From Dear Line, we entered the Thrilling Line.

There are some mellow spots, but its uniqueness made it one of the more interesting courses.

Winding Road is a gentle trail that runs around the outer edge of the resort.

At times it narrows,

Then widens again, with natural wall features—making it a fun, easygoing ride.

The Swingin’ area splits into four lines—A, B, C, and D—partway through the zone.

Each line’s entrance can be hard to spot, so keep an eye out as you ride.

Swingin’ D Line is short but packed with playful wall terrain.

Swingin’ C Line features ungroomed snow and strange, unpredictable terrain.

Swingin’ B Line was too rough this time, so we opted for the groomed A Line instead.

Lastly, we ran into Yoko Nakamura from Sapporo and Mika Komizu from Shiga, and decided to link up.

Together, we enjoyed the Dancing B Line.

They both showcased their skills on the large wall terrain along the course’s edge.

At Mount Racey, almost every course is accessible via gondola, making it a great place to enjoy both terrain features and groomers. Though we had fresh snow this time, with many wide, mid-angle slopes, I felt this resort would still be a lot of fun even in firmer conditions.
